CSSA Featured in IUCN Newsletter: A New Chapter in Conservation

We’re proud to announce the publication of an article by CSSA leaders Irwin Lightstone, Ann Hopkinson, and Rod Haenni in the latest issue of the Cactus and Succulent Plants Specialist Group Newsletter, published by the IUCN, SSC, and CSSG.

Titled “Conservation and the Cactus and Succulent Society of America,” the article highlights the CSSA’s ongoing transformation into a conservation-centered organization. It details the growing threats to succulent plants worldwide—including climate change, habitat destruction, and poaching—and how the CSSA is responding with action.

From funding anti-poaching efforts in South Africa and Namibia, to supporting habitat restoration and seed collection in Peru and Arizona, the CSSA is stepping up to protect the plants we all love. The article also showcases how the CSSA is using education, public outreach, and new policy to shift the culture of the hobby toward sustainable growing practices.

We invite you to read the full article and learn more about how the CSSA is contributing to global succulent conservation.
