While we are grateful for the many decades of partnership and support, changes at the Huntington mean we are actively searching for a new long-term home for one of the most important cactus and succulent libraries in the world.
About the CSSA Library
The CSSA Library contains more than 1,500 books and publications focused on cacti, succulents, and related botanical subjects. The collection includes many rare, historic, and out-of-print works, making it an invaluable resource for scholarship, conservation, and education.
In shelving terms, the collection requires approximately 125–150 linear feet of shelving, along with appropriate environmental conditions to ensure its long-term preservation and accessibility.
What We’re Looking For
CSSA is seeking a location that:
- Can safely house and care for a specialized research library
- Provides reasonable access for members, researchers, or by appointment
- Shares CSSA’s commitment to education, conservation, and botanical scholarship
Potential hosts might include botanical gardens, universities, libraries, museums, herbaria, or similar institutions. The CSSA does have library funds to help support this arrangement.
How You Can Help
If you or your institution:
- Have space available,
- Know of an organization that might be a good fit, or
- Have experience relocating or managing special collections,
we would love to hear from you.
