“Echeveria laui” Climate Impact Study

Surveying "Echevaria laui" with drones

CSSA funded drone-based surveys in steep canyons to assess the impact of climate change and evaluate drone efficacy in remote monitoring.

The CSSA provided a grant for the purpose of researching the effect of climate changes on Echeveria laui in a canyon previously surveyed. The survey is in steep terrain where plant surveys are time consuming, risky, and have environmental consequences due to the equipment normally needed. Of importance, drones will be used to survey the plants.

The study will be important in two respects: First it will detail the impact of climate change in the unique geographical structure of canyons; Second it will test whether drones can more efficiently and cheaply survey plants, particularly in harsh terrain.
