About our Speaker
Gary Nored has been fascinated by cacti since the age of nine, when he first took notice of them thriving in the limestone soils around his home in San Angelo, Texas. Following his retirement, he dedicated his time to volunteering at Big Bend Ranch State Park, located west of Big Bend National Park. During his time there, he led nature tours, documented the region’s breathtaking landscapes and diverse plant life through photography, and wrote extensively about the ecology of the Chihuahuan Desert. His passion for the park and its unique flora continues to fuel his efforts to raise awareness and encourage more visitors to experience its natural beauty.

Big Bend Ranch State Park
Join us for an insightful presentation exploring the diverse cacti of Big Bend Ranch State Park. Featuring stunning photographs and detailed descriptions, this talk highlights all the species documented during the original botanical surveys conducted while proposing the park. Though these surveys took place over 30 years ago and may not encompass every species present today, they provide a valuable guide to the cacti most commonly encountered in the park’s rugged landscape. Whether you’re a cactus enthusiast, a botanist, or an adventurer planning a visit, this webinar offers a fascinating glimpse into the park’s unique flora.
